Elena Dementieva is Maxim Afinogenov's girlfriend

Elena Dementieva is Maxim Afinogenov’s hot hockey girlfriend. Or fiancee. Or wife. I’m honestly not sure at this point.

Reports that Elena was dating the Buffalo Sabres wing surfaced in 2006, and in 2007 they were said to be engaged with a July 2008 wedding date.

But here we are, August 1st, and I can’t find any confirmation that they’ve tied the knot. They do still seem to be together though, as Max has been seen at her recent matches.

Anyway…

If you didn’t already know (and you’d be quickly forgiven), Elena Dementieva is a professional tennis player. She’s currently ranked #6 in the world, so I do feel a little bad about not knowing who she is until just now.

Outside of the Williams sisters, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova, would you recognize anyone from the WTA if they walked up to you in the street?

I have to admit I feel a little guilty about this, but reading the names on the WTA Rankings means about as much to me as reading the names of the costume designers when the movie credits roll.
