Piritta Hannula

My Swedish is a little shaky (read: I don’t know one damn word of it), and the English speaking world doesn’t seem to know much about poor Piritta. In short, there’s a good chance I didn’t get the facts exactly straight on this one. So it goes. I’ll just stick to the basics.

Piritta Hannula was the 2003 Miss Finland runner up. She won Miss Europe the same year (I’m not sure how you win Miss *insert continent* without winning Miss *insert country in said continent*, but oh well).  Piritta went on to win Miss Scandinavia the following year.

Piritta is Niklas Hagman’s wife (Niklas is also from Finland). She was engaged to the Dallas Stars hockey player in 2005, and married him a year later in Helsinki.

Kristi Yamaguchi

You already know who Kristi Yamaguchi is, and that’s okay. It’s not like you watch figure skating for the choreography or the music, right? No, you watch it for the flesh colored costumes that look scandalous in the wide shots. You watch it in case someone’s kneecaps get busted. You watch just in case that triple axle turns into a triple omg did you see her neck snap-back when she landed on her face lol. Like I said, that’s okay. You don’t need to defend yourself.

Kristi Yamaguchi won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics, and while there, she met NHL player Bret Hedican. Apparently she has a thing for men in skates, as she married the Carolina Hurricanes player in 2000.

Yamaguchi doesn’t do a whole lot of professional skating these days, but you can currently catch her on Dancing with the Stars. You probably knew that already, and that’s okay. You only watch it because your wife likes it. I understand. 

Kellie Pickler

Kellie Pickler is a former American Idol contestant turned country music star.

She appeared on the “talent” show in 2006, and her combination of good looks and stupidity southern charm prompted some to compare her to fellow WAG Jessica Simpson. The comparison is really unfair to Jessica—she may not know the natural source of buffalo wings, but Kellie thought Europe was a country. *sigh*

Her reputation as an anti-scholar hasn’t hampered her recording career, however. She has had 3 singles break the top 20 on the country music charts, and her biggest hit, “I Wonder,” is currently nominated for four Country Music Television Awards.

Upon relocating to Nashville, Kellie briefly dated Nashville Predators wing Jordin Tootoo. 

Izabella Scorupco

Izabella Scorupco is a Polish actress best known for her role as Bond girl Natalya Simonova in 1995’s GoldenEye.

She also had successful, albeit brief singing career in the early 90s. Her 1992 single Shame, Shame, Shame was a top 5 hit in Scandinavia, and performed respectably in other Germanic nations.

In 1996, Izabella married Polish NHL hockey player Mariusz Czerkawski. They divorced in 1998. 

Anna Kournikova

Russians aren’t traditionally known for their natural beauty, but their reputation has been improving in recent years, thanks to women such as Anna Kournikova.

As a tennis player, Anna never really lived up to the hype. When she was 14, she won the under 18 Junior World Championship, and the following year she made it to the 4th round of the US Open. However, her athletic ability quickly took a second seat to her physical appearance, and she never won a singles grand slam event. A few years later, at the age of 22, she was out of the game altogether.

Because of her good looks, Kournikova has never had a problem picking up endorsements or modeling gigs. She has posed for Maxim, FHM and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Anna was reportedly married to NHL star Sergei Federov in 2001, but there are conflicting accounts of the story. Anna’s reps claim the story is bogus, while Federov says it’s true. I flipped a coin, and I believe Sergei.
