Cheryl Tweedy rose to fame as a winner of the British reality show Popstars: The Rivals. The show was sort of a cross between American Idol and Making the Band, as the viewers voted on who they wanted to be in the band. Cheryl was the first girl chosen, and became the founding member of Girls Aloud.
The band experienced massive success. Girls Aloud had 18 consecutive Top 10 singles, three number ones, five platinum albums, over 4.2 million record sales in the UK alone.
